Green Traill 5K Run/Walk at the Easton Cemetery
May 1 @ 9:00 am
The Historic Easton Cemetery is pleased to present the Green Traill 5K! This may be a short race, but it won’t be easy. Our challenging course will take you through the cemetery’s rolling hills, bumpy roads and 300’ of elevation.
“Green Traill” is a reference to the cemetery’s founder, Dr. Traill Green. Dr. Green was a medical doctor, teacher, botanist, geologist, chemist, professor (at Lafayette!), humanitarian, and author. His interest in improving the condition of his fellow citizen led to his lectures on the evils of graveyards in crowded places. He saw the need for burial grounds to be a safe and sanitary distance from the houses and businesses. These efforts led to the opening of Easton Cemetery in 1849.
The Green Traill 5K is a fundraiser with a specific mission: Cars were allowed in Easton Cemetery in 1913 but now the cemetery is faced with the daunting problem of resurfacing many miles of road. Income is not sufficient to cover the costs of the major expense of this great need. All race proceeds will go towards improving the cemetery’s roads and grounds.
